Rufus and I

Are we in competition dear boy?
I try not to show it, though if I had another glass
of wine in me I too might growl
and bark whenever she turns from me to you

​

It’s in your interest after all, she feeds you treats
and of course, there is no way
we might make her jealous of us both, showing
one another a slobbering fondness,

​

So we have to sit, or in your case
go wagging, whining, moaning, or moving wildly
when she brings affection to the other,
each of us planning to get her in the bedroom alone
