Christmas Roast

101 of the favorite Christmas songs of all time
play over the radio while I sit
alone at my kitchen table
feeling myself carried away to wherever elves
hand out presents and reindeer fly
and life sparkles like the tinsel on trees
in the living room of Yuletide--
I am naturally doped and high;
suffused with warmth and on the cusp of Nod:
I want the music to go on
on but do not think I can make it through 46 more songs--
ah, Hell, Christman Eve
like everything else
has to end, too.
