The Flying Dodo
Slumber, Sugarbean
Soft sleeps my sweetest sugarbean girl
with white paw wrapped around finger’s curl
Her feline streamline hugs against my side
with warmth only her presence can provide
No whisker twitch, nor hind leg itch
could unsew the tranquil time stitch
On clouds of blankets - cotton nests -
this drowsy creature humbly rests
True tiger’s tail touched tender to my hand -
such subtle taps I vaguely understand
Faint thunder rumbles like a clement storm,
lightly lulls me to meet her dreamy form
E. J. Kuhl’ mostly writes on dark subjects, interlaced with the surprising beauty she finds in death and nature. Her inspirations include Sylvia Plath and Charles Bukowski.
