The wishes of children escape
the grasp of chilled fingers
tracing the tracks in the snow.
Hopes like these float across the world
on a clear, star-scattered night.
One light especially shines
Towards the time of the year’s ending.
What begins in moonlight becomes
more than can be imagined
when delighted eyes open,
like the gates of an unknown future
slowly revealing our reason for being.
